Activities Galore for One & All
Join us at the NSS Get-Together, held at the tranquil settings of the MOE Dairy Farm Adventure Centre, and get to know more of fellow NSS members. Chill out and chat or take part in some of the activities offered by the various NSS Subgroups. Round this off with dinner and a fireside sing-along. Members are encouraged to register in advance, but last minute attendance is also acceptable. Please register by emailing your name and contact number to Joe Lim at contact@nss.org.sg. Amongst the exciting line-up of activities, some definite, some still in the proposal stage are:
- PLANT TOUR – A guided walk by the Plant Group will introduce you to the rich cornucopia of greenery growing within the centre’s garden and its jungle environs.
- BUTTERFLY HUNT – The Butterfly Interest Group will delight you with colourful fluttering creatures that pollinate and pro-create before expiring, in a hunt like no other.
- BIRD-WATCHING WALK – Locate that mellifluous tune wafting down from the tree tops and admire the burst of colours emanating from our tropical and migratory birds with the Bird Group. Remember to bring your binoculars. We’ll provide telescopes for even closer views. Walk starts in the evening.
- NIGHT WALK & STAR-GAZING – The Nature Ramblers will bring you on a short night walk to the Dairy Farm Quarry for an introduction to the twinkling stars and heavenly constellations.
- FUN WITH KAMPONG GAMES – Calling all Kids 4 to 12 years old. Join Gloria, Tim and Si Guim in having Fun with Kampong Games. Replay the games that used to amuse our kampong kids for hours on end. Learn how to make a ‘helicopter’, ‘gun’ and spinning top from plant materials. Shoot marbles, kick ‘chatek’ and dabble in ‘five stones’. We will also have team games such as ‘Eagle catches the Chicks’, ‘One-Leg’ and ‘Le-long’. Register with Gloria at gloria_seow@yahoo.com giving us your kids’ names and ages, and your mobile number. Cost: $5 per child (members). Time: 430pm to 6pm.
- NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY TALK & SLIDESHOW – Let one of our veteran nature photographers show you some tricks on taking photos of subjects that do not stay still for long. There will also be a slideshow featuring their excellent nature photographic collection.
- BIRD ECOLOGY EXHIBITS – The Bird Ecology Study Group (BESGroup) documents bird behaviour with photos and observations on its successful website at http://besgroup.talfrynature.com. Find out more about BESGroup at this mini-exhibition.
- BAT HUNT – Join members of the Vertebrate Study Group in a night jaunt to hunt for bats at dusk as they leave their day roost to catch insects or suck nectar from flowers.
