Abstract:  Have you ever wondered how plants get their scientific names? How do orchid hybrids and man-made horticultural varieties of ornamental plants get their cultivar names? Come for these two workshops in March to learn about the rules to follow and the requirements needed in giving a plant its valid scientific name.  Learn how to propose a valid scientific name for a newly discovered plant species following the 2010 edition of the revised International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi and Plants (ICN). During the workshop, actual cases of controversial names given to the same and related plants will be introduced and the correct nomenclatural solution will be discussed.
