Open to the Public - Registration Needed
At the first Annual Bird Census (ABC) in 1986, we recorded nearly 6,000 birds from 129 species. In 2016, we had 6,738 birds from 134 species at 24 sites – lower than the 31-year mean of 8,570 birds from 149 species. Trends for both abundance and diversity have shown declines. Such data have helped NSS in our conservation proposals, in assessing the state of our natural habitats and in mapping out general population trends. Building on this legacy, the 32nd ABC will take place at many important bird areas. We invite volunteers with some birdwatching experience to join us in locating and counting birds.
