DESCRIPTION:Volunteer Call Out: We Need Straw-headed Bulbul Public Perception Surveyors! \nCo-chaired by NParks and Nature Society Singapore (NSS)\, the Straw-headed Bulbul Working Group drives the National Species Action Plan to protect one of the world’s most threatened songbirds. We need volunteers to gather insights on public awareness of the Straw-headed Bulbul (SHB). Your contribution will support conservation actions to ensure this iconic bird continues to thrive for generations to come. \n  \nStraw-headed Bulbul Public Perception Surveyor \nYour role will involve: \n\n– Conducting in-person surveys with members of the public at selected parks\, nature parks\, and nature reserves.\n– Ensuring the successful submission of completed responses.\n– Familiarising and adhering to survey protocol to ensure consistency and accuracy of data collected.\n\n  \nQualifications \nWe are looking for volunteers who: \n\n– Are comfortable interacting with diverse groups of people.\n– Possess verbal communication skills.\n– Comfortable with working in outdoor conditions.\n\nNo prior experience is needed. \n  \nSurvey Resources \nVolunteers will be contacted by email with resources and instructions to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed for the role. \n\nMaterials will cover:\n– The aims of the survey and its role in conservation.\n– The survey questionnaire and protocol.\n– Guidance on engaging with the public effectively and respectfully.\n– Safety considerations while conducting surveys in nature spaces.\n– Resources for conducting surveys\n\n  \nCommitment \nSurveys will run until Dec 2025\, with flexible sessions you can join based on your availability. \nEach volunteer is expected to complete a minimum of 10 surveys during this survey period (each survey takes approx 5-10mins) \nJoin Us Today! \nIf you want to play a part in shaping the future of the Straw-headed Bulbul\, please register your interest at: \nhttps://tinyurl.com/SHBPublicPerceptionSurveyor \nClosing Date: 16 November\, Sunday \nEnquires \nFor enquiries\, please contact Shreeyaa Subra at shreeyaa@nss.org.sg

SUMMARY:Birdwatching at Kranji Marshes
DESCRIPTION:Open to the Public \nJoin Yong Ding Li at Kranji Marshes to see some of our regular\, long-distance visitors from across Asia.  At this ramble\, Ding Li will introduce participants to the East Asian-Australasian Flyway\, Singapore’s geographical position as part of this massive flyway\, and the many migratory species that use it.  Kranji Marshes is the perfect place to be acquainted with several of our regular migrants\, including the Barn Swallow\, Yellow-rumped Flycatcher\, Arctic Warbler\, and with a bit of luck\, you might get to observe reed warblers and even the Pallas’s Grasshopper Warbler. To top it all\, you may also get to observe raptor migration\, and several species of migratory waterbirds\, including the Wood Sandpiper. \nThe walk is free but participants will need to cover transport cost at $15 per person.
