Top Wing Brilliance to delight

Postby amytsang » Sat Jul 28, 2012 10:10 pm

It is always quite a thrill to see the top wings of butterflies especially those with strong, electric colors or unusual patterning.

I found the Branded Imperial's top wings designed like a flower at the base of the hind wings, while the Common Posy reveals two 'ribbons' at the back of its hind wings' . Maybe it is to repel predators, but to me the top wings look exceedingly charming...

I was photographing the Shining Plushblue when it took off suddenly showing its brilliant electric blue top wings! It was a stunning sight!

Thanks, Laurence. As said, it was a happy accidental shot...no skill involved. I was delighted to witness the electric blue top wings as the butterfly took off. Must say its name 'Shining Plusblue' is rather apt!
