Jezebel with wings spread out!

Postby angieng » Fri Sep 21, 2012 10:26 pm

Is it common for a male Jezebel to be spread-eagled like this?

It eclosed in the morning, in the evening it had assumed this stance on the side of the box.
It flew out straight out on to the wall when it was agitated.

I had no opportunity to see it again the next morning.
Was it trying to attract a female?

Thanks, lemon.
Years ago, I saw one recently eclosed Jezebel females fly off to land on a leaflet of the Angsana.
A male Jezebel was cruising by then; our new female butterfly immediately dropped her wings, raised and waved her abdomen.
The male turned round, landed on her and carried her away!

None of the newly eclosed male Jezebels seemed interested to mate!
