This jewel of a beetle was found resting on a leaf along Imbiah Trail in Sentosa.
Is this a Tiger Beetle or some other species?

Yes, Japanese Tiger Beetle (Cicindela japonica) - the fastest land running animal on earth (relative to body mass, clocking speeds over 20 times faster than the world's fastest human)!

Lena, thanks. So if Bolt takes 10 secs to run 100 meters, this beetle can do it in half a second? Amazing!. Wonder how they do it.

The keyword here is 'relative to body mass'. Does it mean that if Bolt is 100 times heavier than the beetle, then normalizing their body mass, bolt is covering 1 m in 10 sec while the beetle can cover 20 m in 10 sec.

However, in reality speed/strength does not scale with size so this is not a real comparison. 10 times bigger does not equate 10 times faster, in fact it may be 10 times slower. :x
