A most fascinating tree, Firmiana malayana (Malvaceae) is now in full bloom. It is along Cluny Road just outside entrance to the underground carpark at SBG Tanglin.

The bare branches are clustered with vivid orange flowers and open boat-shaped papery capsules bearing 2 tiny seeds. Same family as Scaphium , the "Ching Tng' tree.

There are flower buds, open flowers with golden pollen, pollinated flowers with carpels extruding from under the spent anthers, swollen capsules, split capsules with the still green seeds. The capsules spin rapidly as they fall, not unlike the larger Scaphium capsules.
