Don't really know....looks like either urine or a mating plug (read chastity belt for butterflies)....see article here for the Atrophaneura alcinous: http://www.jstor.org/pss/4600671

I think it is the mating plug, as urine would not stay on even after mating.
Urine would be immediately expelled and not cling on like this, also urine is much clearer.
Anyways I think they can't mate and urinate at the same time...
