Jumping Caterpillar ??? 11th Sept 2010

Postby kctsang » Mon Sep 20, 2010 5:16 pm

Was at Venus Drive on 11th Sept 2010, going along with the dragonfly outing when I came across this caterpillar
trying to decide on what to do as it seems to have come to a dead end of his path. It move forward, and backwards on the leave that
he was on a few times, he than decided to make a jump for it as it is the only way that he is able to make any progress forward.

Can caterpillars think ???? :pdr: :pdr: :pdr:

Having dropped on to the leave litter below he made his way to a tree trunk and began to climb it....

I must say this fellow can think lah !!! :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

Also anyone here got any idea of what caterpillar this is ???

I am just wondering if you could make a slow motion for the moment when the caterpillar "jump" off the leaf? ;)

Nice clip KC,
The way it's agility more catlike than caterpillar, like a cat jumping off some building and landing on 4 feet.
And the spines...ya like a porcupine- Procupine cat !
Anyway, my guess its a Lasiocampidae :pdr: :pdr:

Hi Buttlover, tried to slow the jump as slow as possible but still the action of jumping is a bit too fast to be captured
satisfactorily. Watch the clip at:
