Leaf,
There are good quality and low quality filters. $300 is on the high side. My principle is good filter for good lenses and reasonable price filter for cheap lenses.

What lens did you buy the filter for ?

If you are looking for reasonably good filters without paying a high price, HOYA makes fairly decent filters.

Lucky yoou had the filter on, or else the lens which costs many time more might have been the one having the scratch.

I bought another filter from e-bay, this one is HOYA HMC, still q cheap < $80 , but took at closer look, it has a small little hole on the surface, then check the other one P&J, it too has small little hole, are these defects or normal? :cry:
