    Briefing before the clean up

    The cleanup begins

Our volunteers get to work - an international effort from Thailand, Denmark, Malaysia, Hungary, UK, US, Singapore, etc. - for a common good.

    The area to be cleared

  • image

Data logged as well to record what is cleared from the area.

  • image

What started as a Coastal Cleanup turned in a mix-cleanup cum rescue operation once the nets were discovered.

  • image

Heroic effort by Say Chong to drag out the nets damaging our marine environment.

  • image

A number of horseshoe crabs trapped in the nets.

  • image

Cutting the nets into smaller pieces to make it easier to get them out of the mudflats to prevent more animals from getting trapped.

A small piece of the larger net removed by Jody & his mother

Matha & Adam with more nets

The cleanup is officially over but the volunteers kindly stayed back to free the trapped animals.

  • image

Can you imagine how complicated it is to disentangle the trapped animals despite this being a "smaller" piece of the net?

  • image

One of 2 buckets of horseshoe crabs freed from the nets.

  • image

This little fella was found to have lost his claws after being cut out from the fishing net. They were probably sliced off by the nylon in his struggles to escape.

  • image

    Almost done!

After a fruitful evening, we end it with a thorough washing up of ourselves, the equipment and the area kindly allocated to us by Umoe Schat-Harding to do our work. Thank you everyone for your help!
