Assistant Director of Conservation

The Assistant Director of Conservation will be pivotal in advancing Nature Society Singapore’s (NSS) mission to protect Singapore’s natural heritage and biodiversity. This role encompasses 

  1. Local and regional conservation initiatives: to lead and manage local conservation projects that address habitat protection/enhancement and promote biodiversity and connectivity, ensuring alignment with NSS’s strategic goals; to establish and maintain partnerships with regional conservation organisations, government agencies, and academic institutions to enhance conservation efforts and resource sharing
  2. Advocacy through the stakeholder and policy engagement: to collaborate with the Conservation Committee to develop position papers and advocacy strategies that influence policies and practices; to engage government leaders, agencies, local communities, and other stakeholders to influence decision-making at various levels, resulting in stronger conservation outcomes
  3. Development of a new ecotourism programme as part of fundraising efforts: to lead, design and implement an authentic, vernacular ecotourism programme that facilitates corporate participants appreciation of regional conservation efforts, aligning with NSS’s goals 
  4. Support the Director in administrative tasks, governance, and matters pertaining to the NSS Board

Outreach Executive

The Outreach Executive will play a key role in advancing Nature Society Singapore’s mission to conserve and protect Singapore’s natural heritage. This individual will lead efforts to engage with the public, raise awareness about environmental issues, and promote the society’s initiatives. The role requires effective communication, event coordination, and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders including schools, community groups, government agencies, and other environmental organizations.

  1. Community Outreach:  
  • Plan, organize, and execute outreach programs, educational activities, and environmental campaigns to raise public awareness about biodiversity and conservation.
  • Build relationships with schools, local communities, and other organizations to expand Nature Society Singapore’s reach.
  • Represent the society at community events, fairs, and external engagements to promote its mission and activities.
  1. Public Engagement:  
  • Develop and maintain communication materials such as newsletters, brochures, and social media content to promote initiatives and events
  • Coordinate media relations and assist with press releases to increase visibility of the society’s work.
  • Respond to public inquiries and engage with the community on conservation-related topics.
  1. Event Management:  
  • Coordinate and manage events such as nature walks, talks, and workshops, ensuring their success and alignment with the society’s goals.
  • Work with volunteers, sponsors, and partners to facilitate events and programs that support environmental education and engagement.
  1. Collaboration and Partnership Building:  
  • Develop partnerships with like-minded organizations, government bodies, and corporate partners to further the society’s outreach efforts.
  • Support the society’s fundraising initiatives through outreach events and activities.
  1. Research and Reporting:
  • Conduct research on current environmental issues and trends to help shape outreach strategies.
  • Track and report on the effectiveness of outreach activities and programs, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop public engagement tools, such as games and standees, to enhance interactive learning and outreach
  1. Straw-headed Bulbul Outreach Effort:
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and management of Straw-headed Bulbul Perception Surveys, including volunteer engagement, data collection, and related outreach efforts to raise awareness and support conservation
  • Conduct Straw-headed Bulbul surveys as needed, ensuring accurate data collection and field observations, while engaging various stakeholders and producing detailed reports on the survey findings.
  1. Others
    • Work with and manage interns, volunteers, and student groups providing guidance and oversight to support their contributions to projects and initiatives.
    • Assist in training volunteers to enhance their knowledge, skills, and effectiveness in outreach and conservation activities.
  • Full-time position based in Singapore.
  • Occasional weekend or evening work may be required for events and outreach activities.
  • Passion for nature conservation and environmental sustainability.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences, including children, youth, and the general public.
  • Proficient in social media platforms and content creation.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently when required.
