Bintan Eco-Journey

About Bintan Eco-Journey

Launched in 2025, the Bintan Eco-Journey will continue its rollout to educators in 2026 as an overseas immersive learning experience. Designed and led by the Directors of NSS in partnership with regional NGOs and community leaders, the programme includes:

  • Visits and guided walks to nature areas
  • Interactions with local conservation champions
  • Boat rides into the mangroves
  • Mangrove trees planting
  • Chanced wildlife encounters with endangered endemic species
  • Interactions with local schools
  • Facilitated workshops

Eco-Journeys harnesses NSS’ partnerships with regional communities and NGOs to create a thoughtful and transformative journey into environmental sustainability for educators and students.

Anchored by e21CC, the Bintan Eco-Journey is designed to provide a platform for educators and students to gain an insightful overseas experience, build meaningful partnerships, and deepen the sense of stewardship towards our natural environment!

What can you expect?

  1. Get hands-on with carbon credits through mangrove restoration

  2. Explore citizen advocacy through the monitoring of the endemic Bintan Langur

  3. Learn how coffee farming in harmony with bees, trees, and soil demonstrates nature-based solutions for food sustainability

  4. Collaborate with passionate peers through workshops, sharings and reflections

What will you gain?

In 2026, the programme, designed for educators, aims to:

  • Inculcate e21CC through nature-based education  by learning practical interdisciplinary approaches to teaching environmental sustainability concepts relevant to students’ lives.
  • Professional development in environmental education and sustainability to empower students to become active contributors and self-directed learners.
  • Apply regional context to provide a real-world context for eco-stewardship and strengthen students’ real-world relevance and global awareness.
